How to Crochet Puff Stitch

Crocheting a puff stitch is a great way to add texture and depth to your crochet projects. Here are the steps to crochet a basic puff stitch:

  1. Start with a chain of desired length.
  2. Yarn over your hook, insert your hook into the designated stitch or space, and yarn over again.
  3. Pull up a loop. You should have 3 loops on your hook.
  4. Yarn over your hook again, insert your hook into the same stitch or space, and yarn over again.
  5. Pull up a loop. You should have 5 loops on your hook.
  6. Repeat steps 4-5 until you have the desired number of loops on your hook.
  7. Yarn over your hook one last time and pull through all the loops on your hook.
  8. Chain 1 to secure the puff stitch.

And that’s it! With a little bit of practice, you’ll be able to crochet puff stitches with ease.

Round 2 :

  • Now, for round 2, chain 2 and create a starting puff stitch in the first chain 2 space from the previous round. Chain 1 and puff stitch into the same chain 2 space. Chain 3 and puff stitch into the same chain 2 space. Chain 1 and puff stitch into the same chain 2 space. This creates your first corner. (2 puff stitches, ch 3, 2 puff stitches)

  • Chain 1 and puff stitch into the next chain 2 space. Chain 1 and slip stitch into the first chain 1 space.

Round 3 :

For round three, we will begin with a starting puff stitch in the same sp. Then we will Ch 1, puff stitch into Ch 3 sp, Ch 1, puff stitch into the same Ch 3 sp, Ch 3, puff stitch into the same Ch 3 sp, and Ch 1, puff stitch into the same Ch 3 sp. This creates our first corner.

We will repeat the pattern of Ch 1, puff stitch in the next Ch 1 sp until the next Ch 3 sp. Then, we will repeat the corner pattern of Ch 1, puff stitch into the same Ch 3 sp, Ch 3, puff stitch into the same Ch 3 sp, and Ch 1, puff stitch into the same Ch 3 sp for the second, third, and last corners.

Finally, we will repeat the pattern of Ch 1, puff stitch in the next Ch 1 sp until we reach the starting puff stitch. Then, we will Ch 1 and sl st in the first Ch 1 sp from the beginning of the round.

You can keep repeating round three until you reach the desired square size, and once you reach it, tie off and weave in your ends.

We hope you found this tutorial helpful, and we look forward to seeing your finished projects.
